Beginning in 1988 and starting with the 6 acupoint heat-sensitization phenomena found in clinical moxibustion treatment, themembers of the research project has conducted the systematicresearchfrom four aspects for 26 years:acupoint heat-sensitization phenomena (heat-penetrating, heat-expanding, heat-conducting, treated part is not hot or slight hot while distant part is hot, surface part is not hot or slight hot while deep part is hot, and not-feeling-hot sensation) and their objective characteristics in infrared radiation; principles ofacupoint heat-sensitization(the universality of acupoint heat-sensitization in pathological state, the dynamic nature of acupoint heat-sensitization location, the high efficiency of heat-sensitive acupoint moxibustion stimulating propagated sensation along channel qi)；new technical operation standards of heat sensitive moxibustion (localizing heat sensitive parts, distinguishing sensitized acupoints for moxibustion, applying various amount of moxibustion fordifferentpatients, givingsufficient amountof moxibustionfor elimination of sensitivity)；heatsensitivemoxibustion improving the clinical efficacy of 5 types of body arthralgia (chronic somatalgia ).
In the course of the study, themembers of the research project, based on the clinical application, followed the thinking following ways, i.e. confirming phenomenon→exploring principle→innovating technology→improving efficacy. EBM(evidence-based medicine) and some other modern clinical researching methods such as synchronism, randomness, blinding and contrast are adopted.
This technology was popularized and applied in Jiangxi Province in 2002 and throughout the country in 2005. It has been widely used in the countryside, communities and families, and has become one of the ways to alleviatethe situation caused by expensive medical bills and difficult access to quality medical services. As a project of the national continuing education, the research group has successfully held 21 training classes and trained more than 1100 people.The technology has also been applied in 109 second-grade or above hospitals, 28 third-grade-class-A hospitals (best hospitals in China) and in 27cities, provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.
The research group has made great academic achievements, including 2monographsand 106 papers (10 of which are SCI papers), two first prizes of Jiangxi Provincial Award for Science and Technology Progress in 2007 and 2013, and a second prize for Science and Technology Award of ChinaAssociationof Acupuncture＆Moxibustion in 2008.
